PROCESS

Conscious Communication is as much a workshop creating media in the public interest as it is a class about the history and traditions of such communication.

The class flow alternates between lecture and “making”; each student will create two separate short films over the course of the term. Targeted messaging will be developed, assigned and interpreted by the instructor.

For the first part of the class, students will warm up with a practice spot based on instructor-developed messaging, including concept pitches incorporating research and strategy.

Then, students will continue developing strategies for other messages, with new and more complex communication techniques, subject to instructor approval, culminating in a final spot.

All spots will be made entirely from pre-cleared stock imagery and audio. Some students may elect to incorporate original voiceover or graphics.

Conscious Communication purposefully avoids partisan political messaging of any kind and seeks to reach beyond politics to find universal statements on the subject of positive values to which everyone, regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, race, socio-economic status or political affiliation, can relate.

Let’s learn together.

Conscious Communication is open to upper-term ArtCenter students in the undergraduate and graduate film, creative direction, photo/imaging and fine art departments. Contact your coordinator to register for the class.

We are comfortable working collaboratively and always looking to partner with forward-thinking organizations in the development of socially relevant sponsored projects. Please get in touch and one of our sponsored project representatives will respond!
